emancipate yourself from mental slavery

$45.00

On December 10, 1927, Marcus Garvey, founder of the Universal Negro Improvement Association (UNIA) and father of the “Back to Africa” movement, was deported on a rainy winter’s day from New Orleans to his native country of Jamaica.

Before he departed, he addressed the crowd by saying, "the program of nationalism is important now as it ever was, and my entire life shall be devoted to the supreme cause. I sincerely believe that it only by nationalizing the negro and awakening him to the possibilities of himself that this universal problem can be solved."
